Description

AdaptaStep Modular Access System

Rooftop & Industrial Crossovers

Stop climbing over pipes, ducts, and roof steps.

AdaptaStep is a bolt-together aluminum stair, ship stair, ladder, and platform system designed to create safer access routes over rooftop and industrial obstructions. Send a few photos and measurements, and Dakota Safety will review whether it appears to fit, what layout may be appropriate, and what information is still needed.

Bolt-together assemblyStandard modules connect with structural T-slot hardware, reducing the need for custom field fabrication in many layouts.
Three access anglesChoose a 45-degree standard stair, 70-degree ship stair, or 90-degree fixed ladder based on the available footprint and climb.
Designed to adaptModular components can be extended or reconfigured when equipment, clearances, or service routes change.

Plan on about 10 minutes to share 3-4 photos, a few measurements, and basic information about who will use the route.

How the Modular System Works

Structural T-slot framing provides connection points for stairs, ship stairs, fixed ladders, platforms, handrails, and route extensions. The final combination is selected around the obstruction, available footprint, and required travel path.

Application Review

Find out if AdaptaStep fits before you commit.

Preliminary drawings are not required to begin. Clear phone photos and tape-measure dimensions are enough for an initial review of product fit, likely module selection, and missing information.

Photos to send

The obstruction from the sideInclude something for scale, such as a person, cone, or tape measure.
Both landing areasShow where people begin the route and where they need to finish.
The supporting surfaceShow the roof, floor, membrane, concrete, or grating where the feet may sit.
Nearby conflictsInclude conduit, drains, equipment doors, curbs, parapets, and service zones.

Measurements to take

Height to clearMeasure from the walking surface to the top of the obstruction.
Width to crossMeasure the obstruction and add any required service clearance.
Landing spaceMeasure the open length available on each side.
Preferred walkway widthAdaptaStep modules are available in 36-inch and 48-inch widths.

Two quick answers

Who uses the route, and how often? For example: HVAC technician monthly, or maintenance crew daily with tools.
What is under the feet?Tell us the roof membrane type, concrete, grating, or whether it is still unknown.

What you get from the review

An apparent-fit assessmentWe will explain whether AdaptaStep appears suitable, may work with changes, or requires more information.
Recommended layout directionWhen the available information is sufficient, we will identify the likely access angle, width, platform arrangement, and route geometry.
A list of missing inputsYou will know what is still needed before a project-specific configuration and firm quotation can be developed.
A practical next stepIf site conditions point to a different approach, we will flag that instead of forcing AdaptaStep into the application.

OSHA Planning Reference

How each access module lines up with OSHA criteria

Each module corresponds to a different OSHA access category. Final compliance depends on the complete installed route, including clear widths, landings, rails, edges, supports, and site conditions.

Choose the Right Access Angle

Each product image is paired with the OSHA planning table for that specific access module.

AdaptaStep 45-degree standard stair module 45°

Standard Stair

For routine access where the available footprint supports a conventional stair angle.

OSHA requirement AdaptaStep value
Angle: 30-50 degrees 45 degrees
Riser: 9.5 in. maximum 9.5 in.
Tread: 9.5 in. minimum 9.5 in.
Width: 22 in. minimum 36- or 48-in. module; confirm finished clear width.
Module range 1-9 steps

AdaptaStep 70-degree ship stair module 70°

Ship Stair

For restricted footprints where a standard stair is not feasible and the application permits a steeper approach.

OSHA requirement AdaptaStep value
Slope: 50-70 degrees 70 degrees
Rise: 6.5-12 in. 12 in., typical
Tread depth: 4 in. minimum Confirm the project-specific tread configuration.
Tread width: 18 in. minimum 36- or 48-in. module; confirm finished clear width.
Module range 1-15 steps

AdaptaStep 90-degree fixed ladder module 90°

Fixed Ladder

For vertical access where footprint is highly constrained and the full installed climb is reviewed.

OSHA requirement AdaptaStep value
Rung spacing: 10-14 in. 12 in., typical
Clear rung width: 16 in. minimum 36- or 48-in. module; confirm finished clear rung width.
Module range 1-11 rungs
Fixed ladder over 24 ft. Ladder safety or personal fall-arrest requirements apply; confirm the complete climb.

Rails, Landings, and the Complete Route

OSHA planning trigger What must be confirmed
Stair flight with at least 3 treads and at least 4 risers Required stair rail systems and handrails depend on stair width and open sides.
Unprotected stairway landing edge 4 ft. or more above a lower level A guardrail or stair rail system is required.
Handrails, stair rails, and guardrails Confirm current height, clearance, opening, strength, and configuration requirements for the installed layout.
