Description
StealthRail Collapsible Guard Rail System
Fold-Down, Non-Penetrating Rooftop Fall Protection
StealthRail combines the weighted-base design of SafetyRail 2000 with a pivot assembly on each leg, allowing the rails to fold down when rooftop work is complete. The collapsible design preserves clean sight lines and the architectural appearance of your building.
Designed for permanent or temporary rooftop applications, StealthRail uses freestanding cast iron bases without penetrating the roof surface. Dakota Safety can help review the complete layout, roof conditions, and clearance needed to raise and lower the rails.
Rooftop Protection That Folds Out of Sight
No Roof Penetration
Weighted baseplates eliminate the need for roof drilling in standard layouts.
Fold-Down Design
Pivot assemblies allow rail sections to fold down after rooftop work is complete.
Portable or Permanent
Suitable for temporary rooftop work zones or permanent edge protection systems.
Fast Installation
Simple modular assembly using rail sections, cast bases, and locking pins.

Five Starting Details
- Protected edgesIdentify each danger-side run and its approximate length.
- Ends and changesMark corners, elevation changes, openings, access points, and run terminations.
- ObstructionsNote rooftop equipment, ducts, conduit, and service paths, including space needed for the rails to fold down.
- Roof informationRecord surface type, slope, parapet conditions, drainage, and roofing requirements.
- Project constraintsCapture delivery, roof access, staging, installation windows, finishes, and inspection needs.
How StealthRail Works
Rail sections are constructed of 1-5/8" steel tubing and secure into cast iron bases with four receiver ports. A one-way pivot assembly on each leg allows the rails to fold down. Locking pins and metal lanyards are part of the fold-down mechanism.
Run geometry matters. Returns or outriggers at run ends contribute to the stability of the completed layout and must be included as required by the reviewed configuration.
Basic Use & Common Applications
StealthRail is intended for rooftop applications where a reviewed ballasted layout is suitable and a collapsible railing is preferred to preserve building sight lines when not in use.
- Rooftop edge protection
- Temporary rooftop work zones
- Commercial and industrial roof access areas
- Mechanical equipment service zones

Layout & Return Requirements
The published product information calls for outriggers or returns at the beginning and end of each danger-side run for the described non-penetrating layout. This applies whether the protected run is short or long.
Outriggers are rail kits connected at approximately 90° to the danger-side run. They contribute to system stability at run ends. Confirm the exact completed configuration for the project.
How to Compare Fall-Protection Approaches
First determine which fall-protection category fits the application. Then compare complete ballasted systems and quotes.
How to Compare Ballasted Guardrail Systems
If ballasted guardrail appears to fit, compare complete systems and competing quotes on the same basis.
- Completed layout: Are returns, outriggers, corners, openings, access points, and gates included?
- Stability: What test information and layout rules support the quoted configuration?
- Roof interface: What is the total base footprint and walking-path impact, and which pads are required?
- Connections: How are rails secured, and what prevents unintended movement or removal?
- Documentation: Are quantities, finish, freight, installation responsibilities, and required drawings clear?
System Options
- Step-Rail systems for roof elevation changes
- Raised Mid-Rail systems for ductwork clearance
- LP Outrigger systems for conduit or rooftop obstructions
- Finishing rails for ladder landings
- EPDM and BUR roof surface protection pads
Independent Test Results
- The supplied product information reports compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 for the tested guardrail system
- The top rail was reported to withstand 200 lb horizontal and vertical loads
- The midpoint of the top rail was reported to deflect to 40.75” under 200 lb vertical load testing
- The mid rail was reported to withstand 150 lb force loads in vertical and horizontal directions
- Testing conducted by GME Consultants, Minneapolis, MN
