Custom Sized Self-closing Safety Gates for Foundry
Installed: May 2013
A foundry and metal castings company in Mankato, Minnesota, needed as system that provided protection for the workers around hazardous equipment and work areas in their facility but also allowed access to the equipment. The foundry’s existing safety systems for these areas were not up to their high standards for safety.
Dakota Safety took measurements of the openings that required protection and fabricated custom-sized, self-closing, safety gates to fit the spaces. Many of these safety gates were installed around the foundry’s “pour decks,” where molten metal is poured into molds to create castings. The custom gates provide safety for personnel in the area, while still allowing for easy access for weekly cleanings and maintenance.
In addition to the pour deck gates, Dakota Safety also provided custom double-swinging safety gates to block off equipment, as well as custom gates for the foundry’s mezzanine-level pallet system. All the safety gates and safety railings we provided meet OSHA requirements.
